Best Way To Learn Mac for New User
Hi,

New to being a mac user, apart from just playing around with it all, whats the best way to use and learn my new mac and all its features.

I see some you have awesome things such as dashboard with various info etc, looks awesome, is there a good book guide I can buy or something.

I'm ok at using computers and switched to Mac for my personal home computer.

Mainly will be using it for music, pics and editing movies etc.

Try teachmac.com they have lessons and loads of info for beginners,

The "missing manual" books are pretty good. I'm not sure if there's a Leopard version out yet though.

Apple's own Mac 101 and Switch 101.

Just remember to "unlearn" the bad habits you've learned in Windows. It's funny the number of users who switch to Mac to get away from Windows, then complain that it's not more like Windows!

Try ScreenCasts online, Might be a good place to start… Little video tutorial things with voice overs to teach people how to use the mac and other 3rd party applications.

try youtubing and googling "mac tutorial" "itunes tutorial osx" "mail osx tutorial" etc also..

There's some decent little intros and tips/tutes out there in videoland.

Also the old mactalk(/appletalk) sticky thread 'OSX Tips and Tricks' which i can't seem to find at the moment (!)

What I'd suggest, is to explore your Mac...

At the end of the day, there's not really any damage you can do, provided you don't start trashing/moving files in the System or Library folders...

Open up the System Preferences and go through each one, looking at all the options...

Go through the Applications folder and open each and every one to see what they do!

Realise that clicking the "red button" doesn't necessarily close an Application - just close that window - use the dock to check what Apps you still have open.

Use Mac Help... (accessable from the Finder - Help menu)

yup, what cosmichobo suggests is pretty spot on!

also just lurking here and on the apple forum at Whirlpool will increase your knowledge nearly every day - i know that years after switching back to macs i am still learning new stuff!
