Trying to test an Iomega Zip drive

A customer has brought in an old Iomega SCSI 250Mb Zip drive, which apparently has died on them. Problem is, I have no hardware to test it - at least, I don't think I do.

What I have:

LC475 with System 7.5.3
Performa 5200CD with no OS at all

I've managed to find an old Iomega driver for a Zip drive (v4.2), which doesn't seem to work on the LC475, but I'm not sure if it's the driver or the drive at fault.

What I'd ideally like to do is install OS 8.6 on the Performa and download the IomegaWare app from Iomega, as they don't support older versions of the OS anymore, but the drive with the OS on it died and another customer left the machine with me instead of paying me to drop it back to them.

Any suggestions on what I can do to prove whether the drive is working or not?

I'm guessing the 4.2 driver is probably too old to support the Zip250 model, unless you can install OS 8.0 onto your LC475 as it appears Iomega's last iteration of their drivers will still work with OS 8.0 - you shouldn't need to install 8.6 on the Performa 6200 (a painful experience in itself - the LC475 is probably the faster machine here!).

Below is a link to some direct downloads of Iomegaware for OS 8.x:

Seems like a lot of stuffing around for one crappy Zip drive - but I'm assuming you need to drag some data off some Zip disks for your customer?
