computer-to-computer wireless network

I'm trying to set up file sharing between my Airport equipped Powerbook and an older iMac. The iMac has no airport card. I'm successfully using an Asus USB wireless dongle to connect to my ADSL home wireless network.
However, I'm having trouble setting up a computer-to-computer network, independent of the ADSL network. With two airport equipped macs, it's pretty simple. Unfortunately, using the Asus dongle complicates matters somewhat. I just can't find how to configure the network settings on the iMac so it 'sees' the Powerbook.
Any ideas would be most welcome!

System Prefs: Sharing.

Personal File Sharing - On.

Try that, then wait a few mins for the Finder to detect the other computer in "Network" (Accessible from top level of Computer... eg CMD-Up in the Finder until it does not go up anymore, and you shall see the Network folder).

Hope all goes well.

Arrr, those instructions be right, arrrr ...

The Finder is absolutely stupid when it comes to handling Network connections ... retry, retry, wait, retry, rinse and repeat until you get a mount/share happening. As soon as you do, make an alias of the remote drive, because opening the alias is the fastest way of re-mounting the remote share.
