MBP grey screen only on power on
Hi there,
I recently had my logic board replaced as the battery was not holding a charge. Since then my MBP has frozen (total freeze of screen mouse wont move) a couple of times. Also for a couple of days I couldn't boot at all (grey question mark).
After numerous (identical) attempts to boot into target disk mode I was able to mount my 2 volumes (osx and xp) and run disk utility. The volumes passed all tests. After doing this the next time I restarted I was able to boot successfully. After a few hours the computer froze totally again. For the next two days I was unable to boot at all or even start the computer in target disk mode.
As of yesterday it seems to be working ok. Sometimes i need to try to boot 4 or 5 times (don't get any icon, no power on beep, just grey screen) before it will startup. os x is the default startup disk.
All my service centers here are currently 6 -8 days to quote and given the intermittence of the problem (and the fact it only started happening after last service) I am very hesitant to send it in. However its becoming problematic carting my old ibook everywhere with me in case the MBP wont boot!
The only error i receive in the system.log is kernel[0]: disk0s2: 0xe0030002 (UNDEFINED). But as previously mentioned the drives verified in disk utility when in target disk mode. So i'm thinking either the disk is faulty or the logic board. a technician said it might be software related (the boot camp 1.2 update was applied about the time of service and around the time the problems started occuridng as well) but i'd rather not do a full rebuild of both os' if this is not likely.
all advice much apprecaited!
Reuben
UPDATE:
Ok now after power on it just stays grey screen for ages. I cannot put it into target disk mode or boot from cd or access the hardware test either.
does this means its definately a problem with logic board or could it still be just software?
