Connect XP to WPA network??

I just enabled WPA to my sisters wireless network via my mac for added security. I can access the net fine by using the password I provided from the mac.

The question is how do I get her Windows notbook to connect to it. It sees the network but wont prompt for a password. Repairing the connection does nothing.

What XP are you running? XP SP1 or 2? if you're using 1, good luck getting windows wireless to work with it - never got it to stay stable and connected.

If you are using 1, find out what wireless card you have within the computer and find the utility, if you are using sp2, make sure you go into the wireless section and poke your nose around there and it should be pretty easy to spot what to do!

If in doubt, use the utility and software for your card! Windows can be dodgy sometimes!

Some questions;

Is it WPA1 or WPA2?
Do you know if the wireless card is WPA compatible?
Does it use the Windows wireless software to connect or third party software?
Is it XP Service Pack 2?

I too recently have had the headache of trying to get an XP box to connect to a WPA2 network, I ended up giving up

Oh man why does it have to be such a pain in the arse.
It's a new dell inspiron with SP2 and I set the router to use WPA/WPA2 with TKIP encryption method (whatever that means). It's not to network the mac to the PC, it's only to encrypt the wireless signal so the nieghbours can't get in.

Anyway, will poke my nose further into the wire*less part of it.

I hate windows.

Basically, first you will need to find out whether the card in your machine is compatible with WPA/WPA2. You might need to download a firmware update or something.

Secondly you will also need to download a patch for windows to allow it to support WPA2.
