Sending application audio to different audio devices
Hello people,
I was wondering if someone could help me out...
How, if possible can I send the audio of say iTunes to my "Built In" audio device (this is the default) AND send the audio of another program, say AsktheDJ to a different audio device at the same time (eg iMic USB which i have). It would be awesome if someone knew how, or some program that can help me achieve this...
What I want to do is be able to play songs through AsktheDJ hooked up to larger speakers through the audio out port of my iMac and preview songs through headphones in iTunes using the USB iMic.
Thanks,
Tom

I don't think this helps you much, but in Utilities the Audio MIDI Setup is where you can specify certain audio properties. I know it can do system sounds to one and all other to another audio output. Maybe someone can help from here.
Cheers

wow, that detour app is nifty - pity they had to stop development due to the way apple's updated apps handle audio... but it still sounds very useful! do you know whether the updated versions of iTunes are now un-routable via this method also? As long as that keeps working then it's worth having imho, just to route music to a 2nd audio device attached to speakers whilst having the rest come out the internal speakers without interrupting it

the way you wrote your opening post would be the best method, route your non-apple app through detour...
enjoy...

Has anyone found anything which replaces Detour? I miss it since I moved to an Intel iMac.

Try SoundSource and SoundFlower.
They are the combo that I use. Although it may not function 100% to what you want it to (ie: it wont capture just a single Application's audio, it takes the system Out.)

Audio Hijack can do this just fine.
I use it on a Power Mac G5 and a Hybrid Mac to pipe audio through both the line out and the headphones port at the same time for multiple sets of speakers at parties. Should work just as well with line out + iMic.

In the Audio Midi Setup utility, select the Aggregate Device Manager from the Audio menu. You can add devices defining their i/o configurations and, used in conjunction with SoundFlower or AudioHijack, will allow you to stream audio from different applications and device sources to different (or aggregated) output devices. If you are streaming music from different applications simultaneously you may have to configure the output from within each application (e.g. Sound Studio, GarageBand etc. have their own input/output configurations)
