Hi all,
Would appreciate any help with my BT mouse.
My BT mouse was not connecting to by powerbook and I noticed that the BT symbol on the top bar had a squiggly line through it. Never seen this before, so I shut down the PB and removed the battery and then restarted the powerbook.
The BT symbol came back to normal but something weird is happening to the mouse. The mouse shows up in Sys Pref (even shows the battery level) but only the mouse click will work. The tracking on the mouse will not work. I thought the mouse may be faulty but interestingly there is now a dashed line through the BT symbol which I thought meant that the mouse was not connected. If it was not connected, why would the mouse click work??
I have also tried to disconnect the mouse and redo the pairing. No help.
Any suggestions?
Thanks

Have you performed a Software Update? Else a BlueTooth Firmware Update - located here:
http://www.apple.com/support/downloads/wir...wareupdate.html
Also Update from here:
http://www.apple.com/support/downloads/blu...eupdater12.html
Also try the following and report what happens:
1. Turn the mouse over.
2. Turn off the mouse by sliding its power switch up to cover the red light.
3. Open the Bluetooth Setup Assistant - located in : HD -> Applications folder -> Utilities folder -> Bluetooth Setup Assistant.
4. Click: Continue.
5. At the: Select Device Type panel, select Mouse. Do NOT click Continue yet.
6. Turn on the mouse. The red light should begin to flash.
7. Now click: Continue. The mouse's name should appear in the device list of the Search pane.
8. Select the mouse in the Setup Assistant listing, then click: Continue. The assistant will now pair with the mouse.
9. Once the assistant says the computer and mouse have successfully paired, click: Continue.
10. Setup is complete. Click Quit.
Clicking and tracking should now work. If they do not, turn over the Mouse and see if the red light is steady or flashing. If it is flashing, the batteries may be either low, or incorrectly seated.
Tell us what happens.

Hi guys,
CW: thanks for the tips. Tried it but nothing changed. I had tried earlier to pair them up again but the seem to pair up ok, just that the track function does not work.
iSlayer: I've reset the PRAM as well, no difference.
Anything else I can try??
Cheers guys.

sorry, all updates are up to date.
LED is flashing. Don't think its a battery problem because it's showing as 4 bars in sys prefs.

CW, I'm a goose.
I had already changed the batteries and it didn't work. I have just changed another set and it now works!
Thanks mate. Feel like a goon.

You're fine vwl. It's usually the simplest thing that causes the screw-up. Flashing red light 'often' means battery power low.
Does anyone here know if the blue tooth wireless mice / keyboards, object to rechargable batteries?
cheers,
cw

My Apple BT Keyboard and BT Mighty Mouse and in the past my standard BT Mouse love my Sony Rechargebales Ni-MH 2300mAh and last for months, seriously, i know others have bad experiences with rechargeables but the Sony ones with a Sony Memory Refresh Charger have always been excellent in all applications i have needed them for...

I use Energiser 2500 mAh NiMH rechargables on my BT Apple mouse & KB but they never register as fully charged in System Prefs even after fully recharging & letting them cool down. The KB ones last for a 3 ~ 4 weeks & the mouse - which I never switch off - lasts 5-7 days.
I was having similar issues that vwl was having and the pointer would not track and skit around all over the place. Recently recharged cells did the trick.
