Ok people here go's

I'm using a iBook PowerPC 750 (2.2)
I just bought a PIONEER DVD-RW DVR-111D, which helped me install my dvd system disks.

But now i wish too burn my home movies onto dvd.....
When i launch idvd it shows " error the application iDVD could not not be opened because the required hardware could not be found." I am thinking this is because the ibook does not have an in build DVD burner.
Am i right and can't i use the usb drive.....??

Regards

What version of iDVD? Is PowerPC 750 a G3 or G4?

PatchBurn is an excellent utility that installs drivers for otherwise unsupported CD/DVD burners. However, from the FAQ page you must have the following in order to use it with iDVD:

Quote:
You need to have a G4 processor or newer. iDVD will not run on a G3 processor or older. Furtheron you need to have at least Mac-OS X 10.3.6 and iDVD 4.0.[/b]

i used toast titanium to compile a short dvd with my imac G3 and an external pioneer DVD-R 109! it worked well, just took forever to render and has simple menus! just edit your movie in imovie, then export it to toast in the video folder. i found imovie2 was really good on a G3, didn't need much memory to run and was fairly responsive!

good luck

What model iBook do you have - 750 2.2 refers to the G3 processor revision, but this could also mean a clamshell - from About This Mac, I'm assuming it's a ~ 700Mhz G3 iBook or thereabouts?

- As mentioned before, no versions of iDVD run on G3 processors

- You're trying to burn a DVD from USB 1.1. All G3 iBooks support USB 1.1 only, so you're basically going to be there all day burning . If your external DVD burner supports firewire, definately switch to that! Patchburn works well with third-party drives connected via firewire, I'd imagine problems will arise with it under USB.

JB

EDIT: thanks chocho, updated post

If you chuck/sell the USB enclosure, and install your DVD burner into a firewire case (Oxford 922 chipset best), it'll make the drive infinitely more useful (and faster) on your G3 iBook. 5.25" FW enclosures can be picked up cheaply anywhere for $30 - 40.

skysa what did you want for the enclosure?? - after reciveing my macbook 2 weeks ago, I got rid of my (last) pc so now I have a couple of spare LG dl burners around. The macbook I do love but the superdrive is slow at only 4x plus single layer - not to mention expensive when they break. So I was considering buy an external case and using the cheap throw away lg's.

so if you wanted to get rid of the case i may be interested depending on the price

can't remember which model it was, but had major problems burning with a lg in an external enclosure on a G3 and panther! worked a treat with a pioneer 109! things may have changed under tiger and the support for external burners!
