Is it because I have a 3G iPod that I have to click through to playlists then podcasts to get to them? I noticed pictures of other iPods around that have Podcasts listed as a main menu item (along with "Music" etc)...and I've done the latest iPod update to go with the new iTunes but hasn't moved the podcast option. Am I right in that its because I have an older iPod?

Yep - from www.apple.com/ipod/download:

Quote:
iPod Updater 2005-06-26 includes new iPod Software 1.2 for iPod with color display, new iPod software 3.1 for iPod with Click Wheel and new iPod software 1.4 for iPod mini. iPod Updater 2005-06-26 contains the same software versions as iPod Updater 2005-03-23 for all other iPod models.

And, don't forget to change the menu settings to put the podcast menu on the main menu screen!

One thing I found is that if I download a couple of episodes of a podcast, they don't automatically play through, ie. after one finishes, I have to scroll back through the iPod to play the next one. Gotta use a playlist so that they play automatically...

It would be nice if Apple released updates for the <4G models which are more than security updates, but you can't win them all.

If they did release regular software updates/upgrades for the old iPods, I think it'd speak nicely for after-sales support. But who knows - maybe it would cost them millions of dollars in development and lost sales.

Man ... what on earth?

Everybody has been complaining about the lack of iPod updates, and about bringing them up to 4G standard, but then on the I think 3-26-05 updater they all were, as fully capable as the hardware is, brought into line with the 4G's.

Now people are complaining again! Yeesh (sin city )

But yes, it would be nice if Podcasts weren't tucked away in Playlists, but you can't say Apple aren't providing continuing service for discontinued models ..

Oh, I am pleased to say I was wrong. I thought the latest update didn't support 3G iPods. You know what they say, better late than never.

I just updated my iPod Click the image to open in full size..
Yay, my menu items have moved Click the image to open in full size.

Wooo! Go snax!

I still find myself pressing menu twice from a playlist, scrolling down to get to settings and realising I'm in Music and scrolling down albums ...

This update doesn't support 3G iPods because the software hasn't changed since the last update.

Hey, you don't get to be an iPodlounge forum mod for nothing
