Default Uh oh... soft drink in unibody MBP

One of the guys at work just dumped half a can of Coke in his keyboard. LCD dead, everything else seems to work. Just pulled the battery and Coke is dripping from the seams, the latch, the battery cavity, etc.

Is there any point in doing anything other than getting all the data off the drive and kissing the Mac goodbye?

Iv had similar situation (friend spilt coke into macbook)

I took it apart and rinsed everything in distilled water and allowed it to dry for a few days.

Still going strong now!

Oh dear Lord.
Water , beer , coke are bad enough to get out of a laptop but Vomit !

Make sure you get all the beer or coke out as any residual can corrode components.

He took the drive and battery out and left it overnight to dry. Somehow the only problem (so far) is that the space key is a little sticky.

Did he wash it or is the drink still in there? If he didn't wash it then the coke is doing corrosive damage with each passing second.

AFAIK he didn't wash it.

He also called Apple and said his space bar is stuck - didn't say why, of course - and is now convinced they're going to replace the keyboard under warranty. Sure they are.

Don't macbooks have an indicator in their laptops that turns red when liquid is spilt on it?

I don't think an indicator is really needed when they open it up, smell Coke, and find the key mechanism all sticky with sugar.

It's not too late to wash it.

But it sounds like your friend is an idiot anyway.

Yes, but it only works for a certain class of drinks, including Ribena, bloody marys, and vodka & raspberry. Coke doesn't trigger it. (Still a work in progress, presumably.)
