If you have APP, you're eligible for on-site repair service. Don't have to take it anywhere.

But surely there must be a limit to what the technician can do at one's residence depending on the problem at hand.

Anyway I had a quick look at the iMac AppleCare Protection Plan and found out I need to purchase it BEFORE the stand 1 year warranty expires. I think I've got until the end of the month to do so. GAH!

I'll stick with this one, thankyou.

I imagine we will see the true next generation of iMacs next year to coincide with the release of Snow Leopard in a couple months' time. Although I wouldn't be surprised if Apple releases a new line (or an updated line) of iMacs around the time Snow Leopard is released. It would make sense to do so IMO.
indeed, the talk is cheaper imacs with better video cards that have a non glossy option on the 24 inch models. just like the 17inch mac book pro's.. waiting for that....

There is not a single repair to any desktop Mac that they're not supposed to complete on-site.

When have Apple ever revised hardware to coincide with a Mac OS X release?

Okay, I'm now seriously considering purchasing an APP. I'm genuinely interested.

But, let's say I go ahead and purchase an APP for iMac and get the screen repaired. Seeing that this light leakage problem is endemic to the aluminium iMacs across the board circa 2007, what's the chance that I will still have light leakage again? If the Apple technician just simply replaces the screen for another one it means that I'm not actually getting anything really fixed and that the problem will still exist.

having owned macs since 1994, and had many many macs.. some have broken down, and all have been fixed on site.. no matter what the issue has been.. even when its been a complete replacement or motherboard, power supplies you name it.. app ROCKS... I have scored 2 brand new machines out of it, even when they have been 2 years old.. happy to get free upgrades twice in my life
