Default Speeding up browsing networked computers.

So, i have a gigabit network (Speed is not an issue)

However, whenever i click here

Click the image to open in full size.Click for full size - Uploaded with plasq's Skitch

it takes about 30seconds before it displays the network drives?

Any idea's to speed this up? on Windows PC's it's a quick as i need it to be.. but OSX > Windows, it's VERY SLOW

Note: Im just talking about connecting to the server, not the transferring of files.

Try using the connect window available in finder, if you're after a specific drive on that windows computer you can just use that.

Its available through Apple-K in finder, and just type in what you're connecting to as such:
SMB://wall-e/share

you can then create shortcuts to it on your desktop and dock if you want to avoid doing that repetitively.

Sounds great...

Do you know how to do this with AppleScript so i can run at logon?

because that would be incredibly useful..

I know the basics, but would have no clue what the command would be. Also, is there a way to turn..

Into a folder, or something so i dont have multiple networked drives clogging my desktop

I dont want to RAID my server, as it's a pain. but it's very annoying to have all those volumes on my desktop

I suppose what im looking for is Windows style networking. With the drives shown under a single Computer and not just mounted and dumped on the desktop..

As much as i love OSX, i have to say this is one aspect where i think Windows has it beat. I dont know why anyone would want to have 9 volumes from one networked computer dumped on their desktop

Why cant i have

Wall-E (Folder) > Networked Drives in this folder. on the desktop?

Mabye there is a simple way to do this and im just an idiot! any help is greatly appreciated.

Not quite what you want, but you can set the finder preference not to show connected servers.
