Default Joining AVI files

I am about to download a collection of movies (don't ask), but each movie comes in two parts (avi's), is there an easy way to rejoin them?

I was thinking the following

1. Download
2. Isquint to encode from AVI to MP4v
3. iMovie 09 to put back together

Good idea? Or is there a quicker, better way?

I'd use ffmpeg if you don't need mp4.

If you do need mp4 use either ffmpeg or use visualhub.

Thanks, I do want them in the format for Apple TV, visualhub is no longer available, so will try ffmpeg.
