Default Just Bought a Macbook

Hey all,
After waiting for a while I finally bought a 2.4GHz Aluminium Macbook. Haven't opened it yet as I gotta go to work but I was wondering what else I needed with it for starting off.
I think I can get iWork/Office for Mac off a friend so I'm ok for that. Any other software, laptop cases etc I should consider?
One person here recommended the STM laptop case. Any other good ones that reasonably priced?

thanks

Well this thread has some software that you might find useful. As for bags I have a STM Evolution backpack and I find it great.

congrats on the purchase

I like to have a backpack, a messenger style bag, and a sleeve for my laptops... All used in different ways for different occasions.

Let us know what you want to do with the machine and we can suggest some apps. It will do almost everything right out of the box.. iLife is awesome.

curiously speaking, did you buy the macbook off from the refurbished store? They're quite a tempting purchase at the moment..

Thanks guys.
Well I want to use it for school so I'll be taking it to school around 2 or 3 days a week plus I'd go to the library or just in the car with it.
Since I already have a backpack for school I don't think I should get a backpack.
I'll be using it for media, studying and just surfing. And some video, music and picture editing.

get a laptop sleeve first, then you can just throw it in your bag with your files/books/etc.

I'm in the progress of finding some leather to case up my MBP for times when Im on the run.

Cool, might look into a sleeve+bag combo.

Also, when I first get it, do I charge my battery till it's full, or run it down to empty then charge it for longer life?

To the very bottom right of almost every window, you'll see three diagonal lines on the very bottom-right corner.

Click "down" on this corner and drag your mouse to whatever size you want the window to be and then let go of your mouse.

The green button up top will then remember what size you dragged any window open to, so if you use the same window corner to make a window smaller, clicking the green button will expand it back to the the size your originally dragged it open to.

Perhaps I was too lazy to keep doing that. lol

Oh! Also on my Windows PC I have my iTunes stuff. I know theres tutorials on how to transfer things but what if I want to play my iTunes stuff on my laptop. Can I have two of the same libraries or what, cause I don't wanna have it all on the laptop for ease or oragnising reasons, but still be able to play music with me on it (I'll have the music files on my macbook too)

I had two libraries on different machines that were slowly diverging in content. I assigned the music I wanted to transfer to a shared folder (XP/Vista) and then used the add folder to library function in iTunes. This mirrored the two libraries. I also needed to use the show exact dupicates function clean up the list.

My plan is to acquire a NAS device and make that the central library for the households iPods.

How do I add shared folders and all?

Also, what's the best program or site for Icons? I've heard of candybar as I used to use iconfactory for my XP system but can someone explain it?

I'd get the STM neoprene sleeve.. Incase Neoprene Sleeve for 13-inch MacBook - Apple Store (Australia)
And a speck case! They are amazing.. They last for 3-7 years as well.. Here's a link. Speck
