iPod Touch Upgrade Question About Notes & Shortcuts

I have been putting off upgrading for a number of reasons. One of the main reasons is that
I'm not sure if I will retain all the notes and screen shortcuts that I have.
I have 6 screens worth of shortcuts and about 50 pages of notes. There is no way to back these up normally and I don't want to lose them when I upgrade. Can someone please tell me if they are saved and rentained during the upgrade. Is there anything special I should be doing before I upgrade?

Thanks.

I can confirm that if you are on 1.xx firmware and moving up to 2.xx firmware it will delete your notes, where as upgrading from 2.xx to another 2.xx firmware unless you put it in DFU mode will not delete them. If you are on 1.xx email the documents to yourself and retype them or just read the document on your iPods' Mail Client

Thank you. I'm on 1.4. I think that leaving out backups in iTunes for shortcuts and notes was a big mistake that Apple should correct.

I assuming that the shortcuts/icons will also disappear from my screen pages then.

What is DFU mode?

I didn't loose my Notes when I upgraded.

I did email them all to myself though - just in case...
but it is still a big negative for me that I can't sync Notes!?!?!!

I'm running EverNote now as well - so that at least I can edit Notes / Sync Notes both sides (iPhone and MBP).

From 1.1.4 to 2.0?

pretty sure...
none of the upgrades on my iPod touch I don't think have killed my Notes (from my recollection).
