iPod Classics - Still able to use FireWire?

Hey guys,
Thinking of upgrading my 4th Gen iPod to a Classic, however, I need to know if they're still able to be updated via FireWire?

The reason I ask, is that they only come with a USB 2.0 cable, and USB sucks arse.

Information appreciated.

Thanks.

no fire support mate, not sure why you think USB sucks so bad, its just as fast when it comes my iPod i find, took me only about 15-20min to recently sync over almost 45gb music, in saying that, the iPhone is incredibly slow to sync, but i'm pretty sure thats an iPhone issue, not that its on USB...

Nup USB only, although can be charged via firewire.

USB doesn't have a constant speed like FireWire.

No worries.

Cheers guys. I'll suck it up and deal with it.

yeah my old 4th gen iPod transferred a bit faster than my 5.5 gen ... but what can ya do? a majority of users use usb so apple got rid of it to make the iPod slightly thinner

and ultimately... won't you pretty much do a big sync to start with, and then it will only be an album here and there that you'll be sync'ing as you get new music.....?

You'd think that, but I usually add lots of albums all in one go.

Firewire is significantly faster than USB for everything

The change in speed from my 3rd gen to my 6th gen with USB was noticable

They should bring back Firewire - the chip cannot be big enough to affect the size of the iPod - This isn't the usual type of Apple move to cave to the market norms despite it being worse

I bet the 3.2 Gbps speed of the next version of Firewire will somehow be better than the 4.8Gbps speed of USB3.0 once overhead data is taken into account... but I suppose we'll have to see. I just like the way most of my Firewire Hard Drives don't use up CPU to access, and I can daisy-chain them all in a string (I have used up to 3 drives in a line, one connected to the other to the other to the Laptop... and I still have a free Firewire port at the end :P ).

I wonder if Firewire vs USB will ever get a HD-DVD vs Blu-Ray comparison...
