Has Apple forgotten about the iPod?
Is it just me? Or does it feel like the iPod barely exists anymore?
Has Apple forgotten about it? Or have we lost it through all this iPhone craziness over the past year?
Opinions.

No they have not. New patents on them. Also September coming around. Traditional iPod updating season. Expect updates. Then crazy Christmas sales and back to school deals. Such as free iPod touches. 8GB.

Not at all.. they're called iPhones now...
In all seriousness though... I just don't feel comfortable with all this screen licking love afforded by Apple to the iPhone with the apparent neglect of the the Mac and iPod (the core business that made the company what it is).
It seems that profits are more important than innovation now, which is a shame.
Of course I could be wrong, but it's just the feeling I get at the moment...
Come on Apple... update the Mac line, blow us away with something never seen before and don't forget what made you what you are.

[sarcasm]Because the iPhone isn't innovative at all [/sarcasm]
In any case the mac hasn't been forgotten. OS X is getting some serious love in Snow Leopard, or did you forget about that already?
And to the OP. The iPhone and iPod Touch are the next generation of the iPod. There's so much love being given to these right now.

Hate to burst all the iPhone lovers bubble.. but it's not.
It's a phone that accesses the web and has all the features that other phones have, it just does it better.. and it's taken it a little bit further..
It's not innovative.. it's slick...
Argue it if you like, but that's what it boils down to.

It's the hype and the fact that Apple has to get developers onboard the iPhone which makes it appear to steal the focus from other products.
Don't you worry Apple will have great upcoming products such as the rumoured macbook refresh and products which will evolve from the Macbook Air.
btw I missed those threads anticipating potential Tuesday updates from Apple 'zomg the Apple stoer is down!11!'.

Hate to burst your bubble but innovation is simply the act of introducing something new.
The multi-touch interface, full implementation web-browser and accelerometer are all innovative features in a mobile phone.

I personally think the iPod range need to go entirely to the touch screen method.. Even the classic.. sure it'll still be thick like the current one, but it'd have a touch screen on it
That'd be a bold move from Apple.. and iWonder if they'll be ready for it.. Roll on September.

Wouldn't all this nano-type fiddling that Apple's doing on the MacBook Air, and the iPhone/pods, mean that they're getting better ideas for their computer lines..?

I agree.
The iPhone was the first phone with a touch sensitive gesture interface. Call it "slick" if you want, but to me the successful commercial application of new technologies such as this is innovation.
Has anyone done it before?
No.
Has anyone done it as successfully as Apple (e.g. HTC touch)?
Not even close.

You do realize that if they integrate touch screen method to the iPod Classic, then it's pretty much an iPod Touch right? The iPod Classic is just what it is, a classic. Yes it's been upgraded in speed, color, memory, but they've kept the core idea of the classic. I don't think they would take that away. Also, some people simply don't prefer touch screens.
