4g iPod shows 1,777GB capacity in iTunes
a colleague of mine has just plugged in his 4g iPod 30GB to iTunes on the his Windows machine, only to have iTunes declare his iPod:
* is named Micks iPod (his name is not Mick!)
* a capacity of 1,777.52GB, with 53GB of free space
* some music that is not in his iTunes library
i've hooked it up to my iTunes on my Windows machine, and his iPod appears as normal. it only seems to be on his machine that the trouble starts.
he's running iTunes 7.6.x and the iPod s/w version is 1.3
i've recommended that he just upgrade to iTunes 7.7 and then reconnect. is there anything else he should do?
and for that matter ... any idea how this could have happened??

installation of iTunes 7.7 did not resolve the problem.
could this be a library file issue?

Have you tried uninstalling iTunes completely and doing a registry clean?

That's alot of 'other' you've got there.
Has your colleague given his iPod to anyone? If not, then that's very weird...

no, he's had it on him all day. he was using it in the morning, then hooked it up to iTunes around 12 to charge it up ... and that was that!
what we can't figure out is that the music (that he doesn't own nor is it in his library) that has mysteriously appeared on his iPod is relatively new music.
this is really bizarre.

When the iPod storage meter is displayed completely in orange, it means that the iPod has not been properly mounted by iTunes. All of it's original data should still be there but something has gone astray during the connection process. I assume your friendly properly ejects his iPod before disconnecting any cables from the computer?

Well, he needs to work out whose computer he has connected it to recently. If he knows anyone called Mick then there's the culprit :P
