Applecore aTv 3.2 released

Whether you followed the drama with aTv patchstick or not. For those of us who figured $49 was cheap enough. AppleCore, LLC have just release aTV patchstick 3.2. If your have purchased this in the past the update free, and now supports AppleTv 2.1, there is also a new graphical patchstick creation application, no more terminal.

If you have not bought it in the past then its just $49.95 USD to unlock a vast amount of extra goodness for the aTv include USB drive support, avi's RSS weather and a web browser, all this with out cracking open the case or void your warranty - if you cant be bothered to find it else where

The other good news is that it also now works with the Apple Remote app on the iPhone.

A trap for young players is that Applecore turns of updates from Apple, so i couldn't get the Apple Remote app to work until last night.

Here's what worked for me.

1. Restore Apple TV to factory settings
2. Update software from apple
3. Go to Settings, General, Remotes and add the Apple Remote iPhone (need to use Iphone Remote App at the same time)
4. Power off with remote (hold down play/pause for 2-3 secs)
5. Power off (remove power chord or power off at socket)
6. Insert USB key (with Applecore already installed on the USB key)
7 Power on (insert power chord or power on at socket)
8. Apple core installs automatically, takes 3 - 4 mins
9. Power off (remove power chord or power off at socket)
10. Remove USB key
11. Power on (insert power chord or power on at socket)

It should be working then.

One of the best things about the iphone remote app IMO is the ability to use a keyboard on the iphone for search fields on the apple tv, rather than having to use the white remote to click from letter-to-letter. Does anyone know whether the keyboard function in remote app works on the browser that gets installed when you use the applecore patchstick? Or are you still limited to using the white remote to input characters from the on-screen keyboard?

Hello, yes this looks very good. Will this void the warranty though? I have 2 months left on mine and thought that I'd wait it out before I tinker with it.

doesn't void the warranty, is stable, is excellent (lets you play anything, divX, Xvid, etc, etc. plug in an external hard disk (like a 1TB drive) and your set.

@applecore: how do you get away with selling patchstick's without Apple laying the hammer down on you? (the patchstick contains OS files that are (c) Apple) ?
