If you have an iPod shuffle or any Apple-branded iPod accessory (case, dock, cable, headphones, etc) that fail, don't bother taking them to your local Apple Service Centre any more.

Apple Australia have changed their policy on servicing for these items, and they must now be tested/replaced directly by Apple using their online form/mail-in service.

It makes sense really - all that can happen in a service centre is a tech looks at it & says "yup, it's dead" then you have to wait for them to process it & get a replacement in, then go in & pick up the new one.

This way it gets delivered to your local post office (not everyone lives near an AppleCentre) and it will probably all happen faster.

Apparently Apple were replacing earphones and sometimes iPods due to bad quality sound, but they discovered through testing recently that some music that is converted to medium or high quality from a cd actually can distort in some frequencies. Therefore the hardware actually didn't have any problems and they were replacing these for no reason.

So Apple have now decided to take it on board to have iPodders deal with them direct in this manner.

This is what happens when you sell too many iPods. Apple are turning a blind eye on the Mac users. First with not putting FW in the box, and now this. AGH!
