Did you buy AppleCare?
Wouldn't that be covered?

You could try getting it repaired under warranty, but you're probably not going to have much luck.
Call Apple (133-622), rather than going online. It seems people have sometimes had better results by speaking to a real person.
Good luck getting it fixed. And be more careful with it next time!

No I didn't and they say the warranty doesn't cover the glass. The LCD still works fine

How did it break? This could be what determines whether you get covered or not.
If you dropped it etc, definitely not.
If you used it NORMALLY and it started shattering etc, then yes. But if this is the case, other people should be reporting this problem and it should be widespread as well (as in, not just you).
If I took a hammer to my iMac screen, they're not going to cover it.
But if I'm using it normally and it dies on me (not shattering or cracking) then they'll cover it.

I thought I remembered reading about someone having the same problem - this article kind of explains how they fixed it, but the actual forum thread has been archived now, so isn't easily accessible (especially if you don't have an SA forums account).

AppleCare only extends the warranty that you have now for another few years. It doesn't add any extra coverage (to my knowledge).

That's right. If you are within the 1 year limited warranty, it doesn't do anything else besides give you the phone support after 90 days. After the 1 year is up, it extends it for another year (for iPods).
I last purchased APP for iPod back in 2004, so I don't know if it's still correct but it should be. I didn't have to use APP either which was a waste of about $100 but not to worry, it offered peace of mind.
