I'm one of those people who keeps PIM data on my iPod Nano. Why? Cool factor I spose.

But anyway one thing I do worry about is the security of the data should I be confronted and the device stolen from me.

So my question is - is there a way to quick erase an iPod using key commands?

if it's a nano, hold it on the palm of your hand, find something with a hard corner (a sturdy table or better yet, a brick) and slam down hard.

Yes, you bork your iPod but the alternative is you lose the iPod anyway and someone has access to all your contats. On the plus side, the would-be thief is not likely to want to steal the ipod anymore.

If there is a way to format the iPod using just button commands, Apple haven't released the details but what are you going to do? tell the thief to wait until you finish wiping your data?

I was hoping i could hit a button combo as I handed it over.

On a nano you can hard reset them with one hand. Or a thumb if needed.
