What do people think the chances of a Wide Screen Video iPod being relesed. My nanos getting on the small size and I really want to get a full screen iPod

Also when do people think we might see these coming out, now that they have the screen sorted out on the iphone?

Well i think that it is a good idea if they did make a Widescreen iPod with alot more storage then the iPhone but i would think that it would probably wait till the next MacWorld .

Though it would be good to have one.

Chances? Oh, definitely. Imagine the iPhony but without the phone.

When? Not until they get a lot of the remaining quirks in the iPhony fixed, which includes finishing 'Leopard Lite', cleaning up the bumps in the touch interface, stuff like that. Months, at least five, quite likely longer.

I am in the same predicament as you, and I think that in the 6th gen iPod will pretty much be an iPhone, without the phone/internet/wifi part, and with a hard drive. Hopefully this will come out sometime soon (should be this year sometime) as the 5th gen iPod is getting long in the tooth, so to speak.

But they would have to change the design, add more storage and they would have to make new software for the wide screen to be effective.

Also they would have to re-design all of the iPod games to go with (maybe) the touch screen and the wide screen.

I think leaving in wifi so it can stream via an airport base station would be cool.

Yes Please! I've already got my money saved up earning interest in anticipation of a Widescreen touch iPod Video. My 3rd Gen iPod is getting long in the tooth and I'm itching to upgrade. Funny I had a dream the night before the keynote that I was finally holding the true video iPod and it was sweet!

i think apple is already working on it ... but when its introduced it wont replace the current iPods, just like when the iPod Photo was released it didnt replace the current iPod at that time ... my theory is shot to shit if apple can release it and keep the same price ... and well apple may do that too.

I can't imagine the iPhone being the only widescreen iPod to be released - heck, it's locked to only people using a single cellphone network in a single (albiet large) country. That's no way to keep the massive customer share that the iPod update at Apple keynotes relies on!

Nosireee, there needs to be a network-free, sold-in-all-regions-this-year widescreen iPod, likely using the non-telephonic innovations seen in the iPhone, such as the new UI, the portrait/landscape sensor, the pinch/touchscreen, but with a 80+ Gb non-flash-memory hard disk.

EDIT: As to a date for release, I'm thinking late Q2/early Q3 this year...
