The nike+ipod sports kit is available in the US since thursday..... according iPod lounge and the tv show on the money it's everything people have expected. The guy from on the money said "this could completely change the running industry".
So now it's got me excited that 1) a rev A apple product is working flawlessly (we knew apple had it in them!) and 2) when will it be in Australia?
Streetwise has August 14th as its delievery date....... surely it's got to be sooner than that? Is apple constrained by Nike launching shoes in Australia to go with it or something (maybe the sweatshops aren't running at the same pace they used too?).
Anybody (guys who work at resellers) know what the go is with it?

The August 14 date is very much a guess as Apple Australia never give a firm eta on stock as there are too many variables involved.
If this stock line proves to be very popular in the US then stock will be held for that market, not shipped to a market as small as ours.
Apple Australia have not yet published the kit on their store so this gives you an indication of how long you may have to wait for this item.

does anybody know if you "have" to buy nike shoes or is there anyway to just strap it to your more comfortable cheaper shoes? I really like the idea of this accesssory but nike make the most uncomfortable shoes known to man kind.

Yeah you can. iLounge did a review and got it working by taping the sensor to a pair of timberland sandles (timberland+ if you will).
Other users have reported it working fine in a key holder clip that you fasten on your laces, and simply cutting out a piece of the rubber insider the shoe seems to work well too.
I was thinking the same thing..... i prefer running in asics more than anything. Nike shoes don't generally agree with my feet.

According to the staff in the Nike shop in Melbourne, the system should be released in Australia around November. With the world as small as it is nowadays, why it should take so long to hit our shores is anyone's guess.

Ready to Ship: 24hrs from the UK online store, which means it will be in the Apple Retail stores here.
I'd think about it, except my Nano seems to spend more time in the missus' handbag than with me for when I want to go running.
If there's still none in Australia by December I could buy a few and bring them back for any interested parties.

As a keen runner I am itching to get my hands on one of these things.
How does one go about doing that? Finding an independent Mac store that ships internationally? Because as already mentioned I don't believe that Apple.com store or Amazon are shipping outside of the US.
Can it be adapted to be used when cycling as well?
I suppose it could go quite handy in one of those "shoe wallets" if Nike shoes aren't your thing.

I ordered mine from Runningwarehouse.com shipping was as much the Nike+iPod though. Should arrive sometime next week.

Nope it's just a fancy accelerometer it'll only measure the distance your foot moves around the pedals. Perhaps you could attach it to the inside rim of the wheels, you'd need to calibrate it and it may not be designed to accept such a large "stride".

I dont think there would be education discount on these. AFAIK Apple don't offer Education discount on <$100 hardware.
