I have my iTunes library on a external hard disc on my iBook. If I open iTunes and forget to plug the HD in, the iTunes music folder automatically defaults back to my home folder. I have to go back to preferences and change the location back to the external HD. It then updates the library and organises the file folder.

Is there a way I can stop it defaulting to my home folder?

Short of remembering to plug in your external hard-drive, no.

Basically it remembers each time you change it to the ext. drive, but if it can't find the drive then it will revert to home-->music-->itunes

If I forget to switch on my external drive all I do is quit iTunes, switch on drive, start iTunes, it reverts back to the external drive & updates OK.
