Free single of the week (7th March 2007):
Just Hold On by The Basics.
The Basics draw heavily from the classic British Invasion sounds of the Beatles and the Stones. But don't call the band throwbacks. Good melodies, great harmonies, and most importantly, extremely well-written songs are never going to fall out of fashion. Drummer/vocalist Wall De Backer had a busy 2007 with the success of his other group, Gotye - a particular iTunes favourite, but now Wally joins Kris Schroeder (bass, vocals) and Tim Heath (guitar, vocals) to release the debut album Stand Out/Fit In.
As usual, the free link may expire.

Free single of the week (14th March 2007):
Sunshine by Old Man River.
Hailing from Israel, via Bondi Beach, Old Man River (real name Ohad Rein) takes his inspiration from around the world - singing songs about love, life, music, and dreams. His charismatic presence works particularly well in a one-on-one environment.
As usual, the free link may expire.

Free single of the week (28th March 2007):
Crash Tragic by Operator Please.
Free single of the week (4th April 2007):
When We All Lost It by The Vasco Era.
The Vasco Era burst onto the local music scene via a wildcard slot at the Falls Festival a couple of years ago and has never looked back. Triple J instantly embraced the group and Vasco Era's live performances have introduced the band's ragged, razor-sharp punk/hard rock hybrid to the masses. "When We All Lost It" is the first taste from the full-length album scheduled for release shortly.
As usual, the free link may expire.

Also, I heard if you are with iinet (Aussie ISP) they don't count your downloads towards quota.

I think that is pretty cool of iinet. If and when movies are going to be added to the AU iTunes Store, it's not going to count to the measily download quotas we get over here compared to other places in the world.

one thing i have noticed is iTunes Plus songs are not included in the iinet free quota, but it is still very handy, especially for the odd music video album... another benefit of iinet is that Mac OS updates are not speed shaped even when you are shaped... interesting but great benefits...

I haven't paid attention to the iTunes "Free Single of the Week" for a while, but this week's song is from a band that I've actually heard from before ... I don't think that's ever happened before!
Pnau - it's no Sambonova, but it's OK, especially for free

This new Pnau song is quite good. I remember them being around quite a few years ago (when they did a remix album with Regurgitator and Friendly), but I thought they'd broken up or something.
But they haven't!

This week's ("Draw Attention to themselves" by "Yves Klein Blue") is excellent.
I hadn't heard of them before, but this song's brilliant.
Cheers,
- Febs.
