Shakedown by Behind Crimson Eyes.

Melbourne's Behind Crimson Eyes have quickly become one of the most devastating live acts in the country, attracting hordes of fans to their particular brand of metal-fused emo rock. After well-received EPs, BCE recently signed to rock specialist label, Roadrunner Records, to record their debut album A Revelation Fo Despair. This is the first single from the new album, Shakedown - an anthemic monster bristling with anger and raw energy.

Stone Hearted by Transport.

Transport does its part to reinvent the power rock trio with its blend of punk rock spirit and sludgy '60s psych rock. But Transport's sound is definitely 2006. In contrast to the increasingly prevalent retro trend, Transport offers a decidedly modern twist on classic rock.

AppleTalk Australia forum was offline for upgrading to a new software during last few weeks, although I believe the link has expired, but to keep the record of free songs, here you go...

Free single of the week (17th October 2006):

Pressure Pressure by Mink.

With all of the mention of bombs, grenades, and guns on Mink's incendiary track, "Pressure Pressure", the group tap into a primal fear-explosions. The track itself is full of all sorts of tension, and the listener is hardly given a reprieve when the chorus comes. It's a hard rock chestnut charged with punk rock energy.

Sorry, I missed out last week's Free single of the week.

Free single of the week (7th November 2006):

Here We Go Again by Vanlustbader.

Coming at your draped in dark, thunderous cloak of precise, nearly mechanical drums and washes of synthesizers, this Brisbane outfit delivers a fin slice of pop noir with "Here We Go Again." It's another tale of unrequited love, this time dolled up in the same sonic flashiness that producer Jim Abbiss has previously brought to acts like Arctic Monkeys and the Editors

As usual, the free link may expire.

Feel by Dan England.

you may remember Dan England from last year's season of Australian Idol, but now he's on his own, allowing his original songs to take centre stage. Lifted from England's self-titled mini album, "Feel" is a Steely Dan-esque track that's the ideal highway getaway tune.

As usual, the free link may expire.

We Lost Everything by The Nation Blue.

Yes, this is indeed the band that can lay claim to have broken bones and bled live on stage in front of thousands of Foo Fighters fans. Mishaps aside, the group has spent the last few months recording a range of angry songs in relaxed environments. The album, aptly entitled Protest Songs, will be available in 2007. iTunes Australia is pleased to present the first fruit of their labour, "We Lost Everything," as an iTunes exclusive that's free for a week. Unnerving, agitating ... yes, maybe ... but it's also good old fashioned slammin' Australian rock down the way it should be.

As usual, the free link may expire.

Sorry guys, I can't find out this week's free single in iTunes Aussie Store.

iTunes USA and UK Stores still offer free singles as well, don't ask me why.

It seems like the spot which usually has the free single of the week has been replaced with a link to holiday music.

Has the "free single of the week" gone forever. I have been looking everywhere for it, even searching and it only brings up the single from a previous week (which is no longer available at Australian store apparently). Has anyone managed to find a free single?

Free single of the week (5th December 2006):

Click the image to open in full size. Stay by Blindspott.

Blindspott burst onto the NZ music scene in 2002 with their self-titled debut album. Their grassroots fanbase was already such that the album debuted at number on in the New Zealand charts. The album also went on to spawn multiple hits. including the singles "Phlex", "nil by Mouth", "Room to Breathe", and "S.U.I.T." With the heavy weight of expectation that comes with a sophomore album, the rejuvenated Blindspott bounded into the studio. The result, End The Silence, was probably as challenging as they expected but worth the work and the wait. It's NZ metal - unashamed and unabashed - and your friends at iTunes are delighted to present you with one of the fruits of their labour ... "Stay".

As usual, the free link may expire.
