yeh I got another message later saying the Music Store was down ... tried it just then and it worked. 
Now I have 2 songs in my "Purchased" Music ... go the freebies.

The Gyroscope Free Song is listed at $1.69. It was also not updated from the Hampdens for like two days.
That's pretty lousy.

i have also noticed lots of errors in iTMS AU. Apart from smaller library of music and videos we also miss many features like "iTunes essentials" which i really like.
i assume that because our iTMS will only ever do 10% as much business as the US iTMS that we can expect far less care in the maintenance of iTMS AU. The big game for apple is America, not Australia  |

I have sent an email to the music store support informing them that the free download is not actually free. I suggest you all do the same instead of just whinging about it on here. They might do something about it then!

I too downloaded the free-song-that-isn't-free. I emailed Apple right away and they've refunded me the money. Unfortunately, they still haven't rectified the mistake in ITMS. Sounds like a lot of people on holidays.

Why do I need a credit card to have an iTunes music account? Can't i just use an itunes music card that you can buy from the shops?

I got stung with the "free" song, but still haven't been refunded :-( I emailled them about 4 days ago.
Also, is anyone have problems with their passwords? I use my mac.com login, and everytime I try to purchase music, I have to change my password (which means I have to keep changing my email password, my ADC password, my GSX password.....quite a pain in the end!)
