[Mega-Merge] Sheepshaver: Run Ppc Os 7/8/9 On Your Pc
SheepShaver is a G4 emulator that runs Classic OSes such as OS 7, 8.x and up to 9.04. Performance is roughly 1/8th of native speeds.
I tested the program on an Althon XP @ 2650Mhz running Win XP. Googling for "sheepshaver windows" gave me easy access to all the files I needed to get the software to boot OS 9
Performance is definately around the 300 - 400Mhz mark for FPU and integer operations, perhaps much faster for some, but video refresh/redraw speed is sluggish. The Linux version apparently improves upon this, and is more stable than the Windows build (I had a problem doing anything with Quicktime - it exited the whole program). It was quite cool and usable running the software, and will come in handy for any PPC games I need to run.
Attached is a blurry screenshot - when were attachments reduced to 100K Disko?

Ahh, good ol' Mac OS 9. (Yes, i'm one of those weirdos who thought that OS 9 was actually pretty good, even though it still can't hold a candle against OS X :P)

OS 9 (or rather 9.1) is great on Older Macs (100 - 200Mhz) with a decent amount of RAM (128MB+, pref 256MB). Have installed it on many an old machine not good enough for OS X.

What would be cool would be a version of SheepShaver for OS X. I'd love to run a proper version of OS 8 or 9 on my current mac, instead of having to use my older power macs.

Sorry, I haven't checked out SS in a while and I recall at that time I could not get it to work, so I gave up.
Tell me if you get it working.

I can't seem to make MacOnMac work OR SheepShaver. Is it because I am on Tiger?
EDIT: http://maconmac.bastix.net/dev.html
MacOnMac IS broken under Tiger. Fixing it is on the todo list.

SheepShaver V2.2 by Christian Bauer and Mar"c" Hellwig
Paranoia checks...
FATAL: sc->regs->gpr[2] in signal handler (00000040) doesn't have expected value (affebad5)
Maybe you need a different kernel?
I will see if I can remove those checks then build from source...

Ok dont get all excited as this is not native classic environment but its a great attempt at it and it runs successfully without any hassle.
SheepShaver http://sheepshaver.cebix.net/
My findings of this application is very stable and sound output is worth the while
I suggest all intel macs who miss playing 68k games download this.
Its a must!
there are some pictures at
www.danamania.com/wally
Note: I will not supply rom images also set the screen refresh rate to the highest you can in the emulator

Looks interesting. Have you got any tips on obtaining a ROM image? Can I get a ROM image from one of my other PowerPC Macs?
