Okay I have just purchased a new 20" Imac GD running Tiger

Now if I run a Quicktime file I've found on the web I just go to the far bottom right and select the "save as a quicktime file", then if I want to go back to it again I can see it with out download the complete file again of the net

But sometimes for some reason the save as a Quicktime file is not available

In Quicktime preferneces it says save Quicktime File to cache which I have ticketed

so how can I get this cache and save as a quicktime movie anything I've watched in my safari web browers

In system 9.0 it was saved in the Explorer folder
But I can not work it out in Tiger

any help here would be appreciated

Are you using Quicktime Pro?

Using Quicktime Pro allows you to cmd click to save files from a browser window.

Okay update

Sorry I should have said Yes I am running Quicktime Pro 7.0

Okay tried command click and nothing
Tried Option Click Nothing

But by accident I found that if I click on the movie in the browser I can drag it to the desktop

I end up with a Movie Clipping 1

If I then run this I can save as a quicktime movie

It a bit of around the world to get next door but at least I have it on the Hard drive

The file I have been practicing on is the Star Wars 3 teazer trailer which is not available on the Quicktime Web site

Can you please give me more deatilas on the Command click and save
I guess you mean hold down the apple key and click the mouse button
But what is meant to happen?
I would have expected a pop up menu but nothing
thanx again in advance

I'm not at my mac at the moment (at work), but I think you need to go into the Quicktime menu in system preferences and select something there that will enable you to save files.

If someone else with OS 10 in front of them could tell you exactly what to click then that'd be great.

I just had a play with the SW Ep 3 trailer myself... and I also have QT Pro and the "normal" steps I use to save a mov file didn't work.

Normally with Pro yes you can save just about anything.
I couldn't quickly find a page that had a mov file on it to work out which combination of keys I use...
I'm a big shortcut key person.
Normally though it works. Maybe they have taken some extra steps to stop people downloading the SW 3 trailer?

Quicktime supports "don't cache movie" and "don't allow movie to be saved" flags, which is likely the problem here. They are often used for trailers because the trailer producers don't want people saving them to disk.

Maybe use Snapz Pro?

Have you tried increasing the "Movie Download Cache Size"
By default its set at 100mb, but you can increase it to 4gb

Also "Enable Kiosk Mode" should be unselected to get the menu to save to your hard drive up.

I'm not sure where the movie download cache is (not sure if its accessible in OS X), maybe someone else can help you out there.

Yes I have set the cache way up

Sad as no one else has found a solution it seems that quicktime has gone backwards for my requirements

Of maybe just no one has found the solution
