Hi all while I wait for my mac mini i am interested to know if or how this will work for my setup

I am at home have 56k, maybe wil move to adsl- i have a dell laptop with wireless,

If i buy a airport white box do i run the phone line from the wall to the airport (in a 56k config) and then it will send internet wirelessly to me on my Dell laptop Inspiron 8600?

Is that how it works...

i have a baby and i have an long cord ging across our loungeroom to the bedroom where i wull use the lappy if that helps

the "box" i think he is talking about is the Airport Express... which has no Telephone line port, it has a ethernet port... so 56K is out of the question....

but as iSlayer said the Airport Extreme base station is the one you need for a telephone line port...

... or use the modem in the Mac-mini and buy yourself a real Netgear DG834G ADSL 4x100Mbps firewall router with 802.11g Ethernet and save yourself a heap of money (they're around $160 if you try hard).

depends how much you like style and easy of use.
you cant beat the airport admin utility its far ahead of any web based software other routers have.
and we all know how cool the airport basestations look

The comments on appearance are true (though I think the AP should be out-of-sight-out-of-mind), but to pay $260 for an Apple wireless router with only a single wired port, and no ADSL, stretches my definition of good value - particularly as another $80+ will need to be spent on a good ADSL modem as well. Cans of white spray paint: $4.

In my book Mac OSX Panther in a snap book, it seemed to say that airport is only 11meg per sec as it is 802.11b, the next gen is 802.11g is 54meg per sec......i know this book may be out of date, but is the airport now at the 54 meg speed. or still at 11?

Airport is only 11mbs, but Apples newer model is Airport Extreme is 54mbs.
