Dear friends,

I've a program that ran properly on OSX 10.4 but it doesn't want to run on 10.5!

Is it weird? Any ideas?

Thanks!!!

Have you tried searching for a later version that is classed "compatible" with both 10.4 and 10.5?

Ricky.

You could try telling us which program, as it would help us answer your question.

Is called Gardening Australia's Flora's Plantfinder by ABC... :P

Why something that ran on 10.4 is not even read on 10.5? Isn't still OSX?

Yes, 10.5 is still Mac OS X, but unfortunately sometime things aren't that simple. Often what can happen is that a certain technology that the software was using may have changed in 10.5 and thus causes the software to break.

Your best bet would be to see if you can contact the software developer and see if they have issued a patch that fixes the problem.

Although I do have one question. When you ran the software in 10.4, did it used to launch a 'Mac OS 9 Classic' environment?

Apple doesn't include full backward capability into their OSes. It cuts down on the bloat unlike other OSes. Still a pain when something like this happens.

There is your problem. 10.5 doesn't allow Classic to run.

You will need something like Sheepsaver.

hiredgoon: Why? Apple discontinued OS9 in 2001, 7 years ago.

Well, there's no reason to get rid of a feature while still supporting PPC, in my mind. They also didn't tell people that Classic was no longer supported when it first came out.

I think they got rid of it because people need to let go. It's old tech, and it's taking up room in Os X that is needed for other things.

Also, i hazzard a guess that anyone releasing software will tell you about updated or new features, can't you can't expect them to tell you everything thats been removed.

Yes, a whole approx 300Mb of a multi-gigabyte OS...

But no as Currawong stated, it's been decommissioned as such, time to let it rest.

Or just buy one of these:

Click the image to open in full size.

Retro Kool

or you could save even more dough... and just buy The Book.

Search revealed no software - strangely enough - only the book.
