iWork Numbers question ????

I'm running Numbers thru an old 19in CRT, resolution 1024x768.

The startup/template window is larger than the screen size, ie I have to select green button to fit to screen.

My problem is that I cannot see how to change this so the startup window fits the screen.
I've looked in preferences, looked at the user guide, searched the net, nothing.
It's bugging me, I think it should be one of the first things that you do - set up your workspace.

Hoping someone can help me here...
Looks good on a 19in LCD, resolution 1280x1024, but that resolution on the CRT looks shithouse.

TIA

Have you tried hitting green.
Then closing the window.
Then opening again, to see if the changed position is saved?

No, doesn't work.
Tried several combinations of that, even quitting the app.

Also opened up a spreadsheet that I am working on, opens up so I can see the whole page, attempt to open a new document AND OF COURSE ITS OVERSIZE.

a couple of things you can try

1. Delete the application preferences, and 2. delete the display preferences

No go after deleting app preferences.
And I can't find any display prefs to trash.

BTW I'm running iWork on fully up to date Leopard.
Have tried it on Tiger machine too and same thing.

Is Spaces activated? If it is, deactivate it, and try opening Numbers again.

That's a no go too.

Have also tried to reduce the window using drag resize in the lower RH corner, closing template window and opening up a new window.
And doing the same but quitting app from resized template window, restarting app once more.

Nothing works.

The thing that is f....g infuriating is that I would think that this would be a really obvious option in Numbers preferences.

Thanks for posts to date.
Any other suggestions very welcome.

Try this . . .

Click green button.
Manually resize window (click and drag lower right corner).
Manually resize window back to initial position.

Quit App.
Restart App.

How does it look now?

Good suggestion, have played around with numerous different resizing options using this direction of thinking, no luck.

Bummer . . . you might just have to wait for a software update.

Well yes at 1280x1024, the Numbers window is all there, but as per my original post the crt doesn't like this resolution, or is it I don't like the crt at that resolution.

Think I'll send a report to Apple, maybe it is a glitch.
I'm checking Apple Support Discussions too so maybe there is an answer there.

It's more like your CRT monitor doesn't support that resolution well...

What do you mean, when you say your crt doesn't like that res? Are you using a MB(P) or what type of computer box?
If you are using a laptop, with the crt as the display, the solution is staring you in the face.

Thats exactly it, the crt, which is actually an HP, doesn't support that resolution well.
I have another one, an NEC, that is just as bad - haven't tried it in the present setup though.

Computer box - MDD FW800 1GHz, so yes, I need the monitor.
Of course a good solution is to get another LCD, I'd like that, but no money at the moment.

The MDD is my Leopard test machine so it's not a critical thing, but I do find it surprising that this isn't a easy option to change in preferences.

OK, seems the problem/answer lies in the length of the Format Bar, the bar below the Toolbar - it cannot be shortened.

Resizing the Numbers window, making it smaller, cuts off the end few items in the Format Bar, they cannot be accessed from your smaller window, as for example bookmarks not seen in the bookmark bar of safari can be accessed by hitting the double chevron thingy at the RH end of the bar.

Pages and Keynote don't have this problem, only Numbers.
I'd consider this a design fault
