try the tiger disks in your desktop now, just pop em in and see if they work. Are they scratched or anything?

The laptop was working fine when you received it, you wanted to do a restore and erased the hdd.

Just a note to anyone reading this thinking I scammed him, I also put up an extra $40 for insurance, etc.

yes mate those disks are fine and not scratched!

all I want is a macbook with the correct disks that were supposed to come with it
as described.

No scam just an unfortunate event of circumstances! And it was only an extra $20 that you put in that
I did appreciate you doing.

So how do I find out what build model this macbook is so the correct disks can be located?

it was acctually an extra 46.50.

so have you tested the other disks in your desktop? because if you have and they worked, then it points towards a hardware problem, which means that the postage was rough going from one side of the country to the other.

On another note, why did you erase the hdd?

Mate I'm aswering the same Q you are asking here and via PM's
I erased the HD cause I was getting spinning beach balls that continued whilst trying to access
some sys pref areas.
You stated that it would be supplied with a clean install of OS and it wasn't.
If did do this you would have run into the same problem I am facing now.

I don't want this to turn into a shit fight, I just want what I paid for.

Sounds like a dead/ dying hard drive. I have seen similar issues like this before that turned out to be the hard drive. Especially the spinning beach balls. Is it under warranty? If so get it checked out and get the drive replaced. You will be sorted then.

Also are you sure those are the right discs? I think AHT version 3A137 v1.3 is for the MacBook Pro, not the MacBook.

the disks are macbook disks, but from a 2.16GHz.

I think its the hdd aswell, maybe from rough postage? Its under warranty, so go get it checked out.

no wrong disks were supplied
do you know 3A143 disks would suit
the macbook is a late 2006 model

OK
the tiger disks don't boot (flashing folder with ?)
tried the 10.5 disk 1 again and it does come up with the install screen..language choice etc
then back to the Mac OS X cannot be installed on this computer.

so going by that I'd say HD is OK it's just a software/mac specific issue

I did verify disk when got it this arvo and it said all is fine.

Erased the disk and formatted it as Mac OS extended (journaled)
was this the correct option?

I think AHT 3A143 is MacBook 2.4GHz, so No.

OK

It Could possibly be a hardware issue. Try a PRAM Reset (Command + Option + P and R) 3 or 4 times. Then try the Tiger discs again.

tried the 10.5 disk 1 again and it does come up with the install screen..language choice etc
then back to the Mac OS X cannot be installed on this computer.

That is normal as the discs for the computer have to be the EXACT ones made for that particular model. I can't take a MBP 2.16GHz and use their install discs for my MacBook Pro 2.5GHz. Apple did this on purpose

I did verify disk when got it this arvo and it said all is fine.

Yes that is correct.

Um all tiger retail disks are PPC only afaik. Therefore no go on macbook. Also any OS disks that came out before a machine wont boot the newer machines. If the disks are intel then they must have come with a specific hardware model and still wont install on other hardware.

Not to mention the only Tiger disks that i have that are intel and boot a fair few models came from a Developer Program Release and were never available for sale.
