So this morning i found that Tiger will be available at the end of the month, immediately took one look at the system requirements, and found one that is totally, absolutely PATHETIC! It says that you need Built in FireWire just to run the @&%! operating system. Why? Why do you need an interface that hardly anybody (except those that have lots of money) uses just to run a friggen OPERATING SYSTEM!? Thats like the city council going and saying that they're upgrading the roads in the city, and that your car won't run on them unless it has a CD player, or power windows.
P*A*T*H*E*T*I*C*!
As one of the other mods on the 68kMLA once said, the only thing about Apple thats THICK is its CEO's skull.
[Disko edit: Made title a little more clear & removed some !*!* and some !?!? and some !!!]
[Disko edit2: Changed the title to something less "trolling"]

I use firewire?
Perhaps it's for the Setup Assistant?

well considering every mac made in like the last 4 years had firewire whats the big deal.
the only g3 macs that didnt have firewire were the g3 beige's early g3 ibooks and imacs and some of the g3 powerbooks'all g4 macs had firewire including powerbooks.
the macs that dont have firewire have old video cards and video is something apple are really pushing in tiger
seriously how long do you expect a computer to last ?

I know it was due to happen, but seriously, this system requirement is BULL! The internal drives are IDE, and for an external interface you have USB, so even though FW is nice, you do not need it to run an operating system!

Still, you don't need an awesome video card just to run an OS, at the very least, right?

but where do you draw the line ?
dont expect it to be enforced anyway.
it wasnt in 10.3
the imacs and ibook that dont have it may run just like some did under 10.3

10.3 was the first OS to need Built In USB, and even that caused problems for some folks who got stuck on Jaguar.
I have a little iMac 333 which won't be seeing Tiger now ;(.

*Cough* XpostFacto*Cough* There will still be a way to get Tiger onto your older Mac hardware, it will just not be supported. I wish I was still in the States on the 29th of April, but a launch party here will do just fine.

I know XPostFacto will work, i'm just annoyed at that STUPID excuse for a system requirement.

I really think it has more to do with the legal battles Apple has encountered. There was the hoopla of Jaguar not working on some G3 iMacs. I think that is why the requirement exists in my opinion. If it has firewire, its most likely going to have 'decent specs' to run Tiger.

It's called dropping support for legacy systems..... its a means of getting people to upgrade.
Apple is a business, and this may blow you away, but they're aim is to make money. And one of the ways they do that is by getting people to buy new computers........ so they offer all these wiz-bang features in their OD that older systems can't run, and thus puts the thought in that users mind that it might be time for an upgrade.
It's kinda smart don't you think?
