Leopard quirk that REALLY BUGS ME
Not sure if this has been pointed out by anyone, but I have had a very common issue with Leopard that is driving me nuts.
If anyone has found a way to get around it I'd love to hear from you!
The bug is that when applications are hidden, *sometimes* they will not reappear! You hide the application on it's own, or as part of 'hide others' and then go back to it, but it won't appear for you. It's like it's not open, except that the little indicator in the dock shows that it actually is.
I do all this work, then can't get back to the app, then I have to force quit it and I've lost my work.
ARRRRRGH.
Anyone else experience this? Or know of way to force the app back into existence?
g.

I get it almost every time on start up with EyeTV. It's a touch annoying.

Are you hiding the application via command-h or hiding the window of an application? Any hidden/minimised windows will appear in the dock over near the trash.
I don't have the issue you're talking about, so I ask just in case you're doing something un-expected.

I have had a similar minor issue with iCal where it's been minimised and when brought back up the top bar that indicates 'day', 'week', 'month' with the left and right arrows is faded and non-responsive. Clicking in the field doesn't bring it back. It has to be Quit and re-opened to function. Any ideas..?

I too am experiencing that problem, and I find at times the search field is unresponsive especially when you delete what you have typed and re-enter the text, it fails to search and again, you need to quit and reopen.
Pain in the frigin butt ! especially when you have it open all day long.
Would be interested in a fix, if there is one.

Are you using spaces? I was having that problem back in 10.5.2 using spaces. Turns out the app's windows are in another space and the click isn't sending you there as it should.

Damn, you beat me to it. I've had a few issues like this, but they've basically all been spaces related.

I've had it happen a few times in VMware Fusion - figured it was a program-specific issue until now.

this sometimes happens with indesign (photos etc too) in tiger.
if you select on the document in the dock (with a right click), you CAN actually save your work by hitting command-S.
then force-quit / restart.
it's like the window/document is invisible, but still 'there' - so instead of losing work - try and see if you can command-S the invisible document.

I had it happen a lot with Spaces, which is why I gave up on Spaces a long time ago... So no, this has been happening without any help from Spaces. I was wondering at one point if it was only happening to apps that were using Rosetta, but that seems not to be the case.

Have you tried using command tab to cycle through running applications and selecting the one you want?

I get this as well, cmd tab won't work to make the app reappear, the only thing I can do is to blindly save the document with keyboard shortcuts and then quit and relaunch and continue work, I find it mainly happens when I quickly cmd tab to another app then back again, and it is completely random.
go figure!
