dot mac still available from Apple?

I thought with MobileMe coming soon, I might sign up for the free .Mac 60 day trial, and then automatically change over when MobileMe comes out next month. However I can't find anywhere on the Apple website where you can sign up for it. And the mac.com website seems to be down tonight. So not sure if you sign up there. So I have 2 questions.

1. Can you still sign up for .Mac? If so, is this via the mac.com website? I can't confirm this as it's currently down.

2. Is the .Mac service reliable? Somewhat disconcerting when I try and sign up for a trial and the service (or website) is down! Does this happen often? If so the new cheaper price doesn't seem so cheap. For that price I'd want something as reliable as Google Mail has been for me.

Thanks.

1. Yes, you can still sign up for an account. Although I would wait until MobileMe comes out before purchasing a subscription as it will be AUD$20 cheaper then what .Mac is at the moment

2. The .Mac service has been fairly reliable, with the odd outage every now and then (which is normally only one service at a time) However with the rebranding and rebuilding to MobileMe, I am sure that the service will become much more stable and useful for a lot more people.

im defiantly going to go out to myer and buy one of those, then use that to add another year to my .mac account/mobile me as i believe they will still be honouring those subscription codes even once mobile me launches.

Correct me if im wrong please. Don't want to spend extra cash (or get anyone else to) and then not have it work.

My subscription to .mac comes due mid July. I contacted Apple as there is a $20 price difference. They have told me that the $20 will be refunded after the cut over.

But if Myers is selling at $50, I will try an pick a pack up from them.

Well the mac.com website has come back up and I've signed up for the 60 day free trial. Never got around to trialing it before. Will run out in August so will keep an eye out for a $50 copy at Myers or cheap one via eBay and I assume it will automatically xfer over to MobileMe next month.
