Office 2008 Update 12.1.0

Hi all,

Just installed the latest Office update that has just become available:

Mactopia - Discover Office 2008 for Mac from Microsoft

List of issues that have supposedly been fixed:

Description of Office 2008 for Mac Service Pack 1 (12.1.0)

Hopefully it will fix many of the issues that have been plaguing the program (especially when I'm transferring between Office 2008 and Office 2007 on Windows - my page layouts are all out of whack!).

Enjoy!

Try this update at a time when you don't actually need to use Office.

Because now (after applying this updated) I can't use any of the Office apps. Launching Word/PowerPoint causes the Setup Assistant to Launch, and then the Autoupdater. But Word/Powerpoint don't stay open.

This will probably be fixed, but IMHO best to do when you're not against a deadline etc.

FYI, YMMV etc.

Nice icant,

I was just one click away from letting it install... i will hold off.
Why am I so impulsive about updating software. I should make a message that pops up everytime I am about to upgrade some software that says:
"If it aint broken dont fix it"

Fix.

Have serial number at hand.

From Macupdate:
Quote:
try this:
delete ˜/Library/Preferences/Microsoft/Office 2008/Microsoft Office 2008 Settings.plist
delete /Applications/Microsoft Office 2008/Office/OfficePID.plist

then start an app - put in serial number.
after that it starts the MS update again and then it should work - at least it did it for me !

Is the performance increased with loading times/general using of the interface?

Working fine for me.

I would say performance has increased on my MBA.

And is it me or do the icons look glossier/different (compared to pre-SP1)?

And your system OS is? did you have other applications running at the time you ran the updater?

From MacRumors,

Quote:
Some users who have installed Office 2008 for Mac Service Pack 1 are reporting an issue that occurs after installation. The issue causes the Office Setup Assistant to open when they try to open an Office application. This situation occurs when the Office Setup Assistant detects that an invalid Product Key was used to install Office 2008.

To resolve this issue, please move the following files to the Trash:

· /Users/username/Library/Preferences/Microsoft/Office 2008/Microsoft Office 2008 settings.plist

· /Applications/Microsoft Office 2008/Office/OfficePID.plist

After you complete these steps, open any Office application, and then use the product key that is included with your original installation disk to complete the installation. The product key is located on the back of the Office 2008 for Mac DVD sleeve or on the back of the Install Guide. For additional assistance, visit the Help and How-To <http://www.microsoft.com/mac/help.mspx> section of the Microsoft Web site.

If this helps you, please contact me through the private posts, I would like to get some files from you to help track down this issue.

I am sorry you if experienced this issue, and I hope with your help we can determine why some folks are getting into this issue.

A slight bit zippier with loading times/whatnot, but not majorly :\ Might give it another try for my home computers.. I hope they fixed the Spaces issues with it.. that and how it by default tends to cling over the edge of a dual screen (if set to the top one as the primary)

I've gone to using Pages exclusively and simply export to Word and back again when needed.
Same same with Numbers & Excel.

too many problems when it comes to updates etc - 2008 is no exception.

I exchange seamlessly with another Mac user at work who runs Office 2008 as well as Windows ppl on Office 2007 - Word + Excel both.

Updating with this

Every time I attempt to update with this pack either through auto update or downloaded stand alone updater the start up tells me that it cannot update this drive because it cannot find a current version to update.

Any odes on this ?

Just a note on this update - a problem that has been around since Office X where emails from an exchange system to html and back increases the size of the quoted text. It would appear 8 years after this bug first appeared, MS have FINALLY fixed it in 12.1.0.
