a quick search of MTAU will help you solve the mystery!

MBP - Region Codes

is one such result.

well if you do a search as i suggested and read the threads all will be revealed!

as far as i know they are successful as long as you follow the instructions and use the correct firmware version for your MBP, i have done a few with no problem.

you check which optical drive and firmware version by clicking on the  and then "about this mac" and 'more info..." and select 'ATA'.

Search Google for: UJ-85J FAV1 firmware

The second result:
The Firmware Page :: View topic - Matshita and Apple RPC1 firmware: a summary
has a working download link.

Only took a handful of seconds to find.

No offense, but doing a Google search is considerably easier than doing the firmware upgrade.
If you can't manage the former, I can only wish you luck on the latter.

Now that's just mean

Without more info, I can only suggest:

About the Apple Remote Control
It's actually a fairly comprehensive read.

I assume the remote works for everything else.
Are you using FrontRow/DVD Player/something else?
