and to think that getting office 2008 would be better? HAH! it has some cool features, but it's still runs like a pig!! I've removed them off of both my macs, and now sticking with iwork 08 and neo office...

Im waiting on Openoffice 3.0. now that will be huge!!!

Does anyone know if its possible to use the Upgrade option to upgrade from Mac Home Edition (2008) to Mac Office full version. I recently found out I may need the exchange support so it means the upgrade is a requirement.

I have now removed every last vestige of Microsoft and Office from my computer (including any Microsoft fonts, application support files, preferences, etc) and re-installed 08. It still starts up frustratingly slow, still fills up my console with messages like "15/April/2008 15/04 12:04:08 PM Microsoft Word[1280] CGBitmapContextGetData: invalid context". Its getting to the point where, once I finish this project I'm working on I'm going to delete 08 and go back to 04 under rosetta, at least until this issue gets fixed.

On another note, I notice that it doesn't respect which fonts I've turned off in Font Book - i.e. all my fonts are displayed, even ones I've turned off in font book.

Hooray....
VBA will return to Excel (but not as soon as James Bond's next movie).

Meantime it's Excel 2004, or Windows 2003/2007 version running in a VM for me to maintain VBA functionality.

The SP1 sucks. If you have two Word docs open, you can't switch between them by clicking the other document. You have to use  + `.

Also, the Office apps STILL don't work properly with Expose. WTF

I just installed SP1, and now when I open Word or Excel (only apps I installed), it will launch the Setup Assistant at the Feedback screen, then will launch Auto Update when I exit that. I can't get it running at all.

Was running fine (albeit slow) before SP1.

Chrisede

I have the same problem, I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling Office SP1 and manually downloading and installing the Microsoft AutoUpdate 2.1 from Mactopia rather than installing it from the prompt but it's made no difference. The MS AutoUpdate doesn't even recognise that I've installed the update manually when you view installed updates. I suspect that this will be more widespread and for a fix to be published soon. Fortunately I also have iWork 08 installed so I can still work in documents but it is very frustrating and annoying to say the least.

See this MacTalk thread for a solution

copying and pasting images between excel and word and pdfs

Has anyone else experienced problems in Office 08 cutting and pasting graphs from excel into word? The images are not properly reproduced with irritating changes such as white text colours being converted to black text, and graph titles moving into different positions.

The images also seem to be very large and make the word file huge. For instance a 10 page documents with 5 graphs in it and no graphics ends up as 3 or 4mb!

Also in Word saving a document as a PDF ends up creating enormous files - again documents that are about 100K in Pages come out in word saved as PDF as 2MB!!!!

Also had regular freezes working with word documents! If only i could abandon MS completely it would be heaven, but too many clients need stuff in MS format.

Well I'm fortunate as I was able to get a cheap copy of Office: mac 2008 very cheap through work. Only cost around $35 for postage through the corporate Home Use Program.

I have to say that after using Office for so many years at work under Windows, it seems that I can find everything even on the new version very quickly, and I've had few issues using it so far. I've tried to use Pages but due to unfamiliarity I keep going back to Word. Isn't that pathetic. I'm so used to using Word and Excel (every day at work) I just use them without thinking about it. I'm not sure I can find the motivation to get used to Pages etc. I keep trying it out now and then, but get so frustrated with it when I can't figure something out that I just give up and go back again. There has to be a better way!

Think I need something like the switchers guide from Windows to Mac OS for Word to Pages!!! Or should I just give up and continue using Word etc...
