Leopard - 3 months later
Following on from the first impressions thread, it has now been almost 3 months since Leopard hit our Macs and ignoring the impending 10.5.2 update, what are your thoughts after giving it time to settle in?
Personally, I love it. I no longer have any applications not compatible with Leopard and am really enjoying the new features. Time Machine, Spaces, new iChat, new Frontrow, stacks, screen sharing and all the new little system additions are great and I think that if I went back to Tiger tomorrow I would really miss them.
I am still having issues with overloading my Airport driver causing a crash when using Transmission and Azureus, hopefully something I can fix soon.
What have the last 3 months been like for you? Post your thoughts!

Honestly- i've not used spaces or time machine- and the download folder is just plain annoying-and the dock redesign is stupid... not more than a point of sale gimmick. It seems to be OSX Tiger with bugs to me :S (maybe i'm missing something).
Finder is the worst bug- always opening at a random size and often the menu items just wont respond. Wireless has been flaky and icon choices are also random. These bugs might not seem alot- put when your work flow is constantly interrupted by them it's plain annoying.
On a positive note- networking is great.
Overall its tiger really- with bugs and a few changes for changes sake. If i went bacK to tiger (likely in fact) i'd not miss it at all. It also Looks like the 20% who are running Leopard are having mixed results..... which is odd.
Overall its still OSX with bugs

I haven't been on the Mac platform for very long (just under a month), but so far... I bloody love it after being on Windows for far too long.

Time Machine is by far the coolest implementation of system backup ever, making it easy to backup (and restore!) files. Sure, other backup programs have existed before, but has anyone even though of using a cool interface such as Time Machine's? Or, using a unix feature to implement a backup system? Awesome.
Spaces existed as virtual desktops before in other OS's (Linux), but never have I seen such a cool implementation. Again, Apple has taken a simple concept, added the 'cool' factor, and now the concept is GREAT!
But really, what does it for me is the rounded edges on the menus, along with the default blue (does anyone know the #XXXXXX value for that colour?). It's simple changes like this that make my day.
Really, Leopard FTW. Can't fault it.

Haven't used Spaces much or for useful things, nor time machine, but minor changes like screen remaining dimmed on my MBP when i start it up, etc, small things that tiger didn't have make it worth while.
That said, i have had 0ero issues with it.

Spaces, Time Machine, Screen Sharing on iChat & finder, better frontrow and networking are the changes that make it a big improvement for me.
I dont disagree that its just like Tiger...except better! I think its a good thing, makes the change easier.
All good for me, I dont think there is any element that i consider to be worse under Leopard.

I reckon it's great. Love spaces, usually have iTunes always open in space 2 so I can use space 1 as my "main" desktop, TM is excellent, networking is also very good.
I had a few problems with Mail (doesn't like bundles for Growl or Letterbox) but once removed all is OK and Adium was an issue until recently.
I use Quicksilver, so the dock issues that everyone refers to doesn't bother me as I hardly use it at all and overall very stable and painless !!!

Honestly quick look and spotlight speed alone are worth the price of admission.

I've not had any problems on 10.5.1 and have certainly enjoyed using it since some of the later pre-releases.
For me, a great improvement over Tiger (which also was great) and with the underpinnings of Leopard so much better - I have a suspicion that things are only going to get even better at quite a rapid pace.
Oh, and I only realised yesterday that I have been using OS X since 10.1.

I have not had any problems with mine. And Spaces has been slowly used less and less since release....

I give Leopard a big tick as well.
On my 1ghz G4 eMac it seems a tiny bit slower but Time Machine and the improved Spotlight are big pluses. I haven't used Spaces. Early problems with Firewire (plugging in the iPod often caused two firewire drives to dismount) seem to have vanished!
Looking forward to the possibility to backup to a drive plugged into my Airport Extreme. Maybe this will come in 10.5.2.
One big annoyance is that Photoshop Elements no longer works and the Leopard compatible version will not be available for a few months.
Cheers
Steve

Agree.
I'm not sure I'll ever use spaces. Just not into it.
I like the dock, bar the tripple shadow issue that still exists and the menubar is being fixed in 10.5.2. Everything else about Leopard is brilliant and I don't think I've had any issues with apps at all... just one or two needed new versions (that were free updates). So very happy.
