Moving iTunes folder to external HDD

Hi,

I'm running out of space on my Powerbook HDD and thinking that my music would be the best to move off the PB, I have "pointed" my iTunes folder in iTunes to an external FW HDD. So now, all my new music files are going straight into the external HDD. What I need to know is:

1. Can I now delete the iTunes folder in my Powerbook?

2. If I want to keep "some" music on the PB (say selected playlists), how do I do this?

Sorry if this is a noob question, just need to make sure I don't delete my music unintentionally.

Cheers

Thumbs up

1. Yes - however I have found it worthwhile to save a copy of your iTunes Library doc in case of later issues. (Like aby database handy to have a backup of the index)

2. Only if you are going to try to repoint it all the time - it might be easier to create another log-in on the Powerbook and have its "selected playlists" on its internal drive. Then use something like RSyncX to keep files up to date and find an AppleScript to add playcounts and ratings (if that is relevant).

PS a quick forum search will tell you all this and more Click the image to open in full size.

i run my iTunes on an external HD, its under the MacMini and i am connected wirelessly via the LAN from the PB & MBP.

it works pretty well, the only thing is that sometimes when you obtain content from certain sources you have to move it over onto the HDD and then import to iTunes.

Thanks for the replies, guys. Looks like still a bit of fiddling around with syncing. I'll have a play around. Cheers
