MSN via iChat and Jabber issues

Before I start - I don't wanna hear use Adium as an answer. I do use it as a backup, but prefer the integration of iChat because I have AIM and MSN contacts and I often use iChat features like screen sharing and video calls with the AIM contacts.

This is driving me nuts. It used to work and now it doesn't. There is something going wrong somewhere and I can't find it.

With the Jabber set up, you usually change your MSN display name via PSI, by right clicking on your account and changing it there. But now, I change it there and exit PSI, sign into MSN via iChat and my MSN display name (shown to others) is just andrew2489 which is my Jabber username, the changes haven't worked. If I change it in Messenger, it works until I sign in with iChat and it is gone again.

I THINK this has something to do with a missing contact in PSI. My vague memory suggests that I used to actually change the settings for a 'contact' under the main Jabber Log in. It was the MSN transport contact under the Jabber log in by memory, but now I can't find that contact in my PSI list. That may account for the issue - am I on the right track? How do I get that contact back? Can anyone running the same set up as me post a shot of their PSI screen? I am on jabber@linuxlovers.at

I might try a new Jabber server tomorrow if nothing comes up. Silver Dreamer (if you are out there) what one do you use again?

Thanks guys, this is driving me nuts!

I use Google Talk as my Jabber account, with the MSN transport on msn.jabber.no

Unfortunately that goes down for a few days every 6 or so months so I also use an Openfire server with a gateway plugin on my MBP so that I don't have to switch from iChat.

Yup, getting that as well and was getting it last night on PSI as well.

Time for a new Jabber server I am thinking. Silver Dreamer's has only gone done on him once ever apparently! Gotta find out what it is...

Issue solved

Turns out there was nothing wrong in the first place. I had been fiddling with service discovery in PSI and as a result had had PSI automatically logging me in to a different account then the one I actually use MSN through. So here I was changing the display name of an account I don't even use and wondering why my display name wasn't changing on the other account!

Thanks guys
