Newby - Leopard Questions
Hi, I'm new here and whilst I've used a Mac for years I'm no computer geek.
That's one of the reasons I like my Mac, it just works, never crashes and always lets me do what I need to do.
Well, up untill I installed Leopard.
Apparantly, my G5 dual 1.8 ghz is not enough to run the new version of I movie. No problem, I removed it and continue using the old version (I movie HD 6), which was working just fine and still appears to do so.
Frustration number 1, is that IDVD somehow doesn't seem to like what's happening and only burns my new movies when it feels like doing so. Sometimes they are created with no problems on the first try and others after ten or eleven tries, or not at all.
Second, I have photoshop 7, which has not worked at all since I updated to Leopard. I've sent emails to Apple.com etc. witout any response and waited on their phone line for hours before hanging up in frustration. Went to Adobe for a fix but they can't help because there's nothing wrong with my Photoshop software (they did of course suggest an expensive upgrade, but I'm not confident that will work).
Is anybody else having similar trouble with Leopard?
If so, can these things be fixed or do I need to erase my hard drive and start again using my original version of Tiger?
Thanx

Welcome to the forum
A little more info with your iDVD issue is required. What does it do? As in, does it just beachball or do you get an error window popping up.
As for PS7 Huy answers that below

For your Photoshop 7 question:
PS 7 will not work with Leopard.
More info:
http://discussions.apple.com/thread....00094&tstart=0
You will need the version from Adobe CS 3, since CS 2 and earlier will not work according to this PDF:

WOW! That was quick.
I usually create chapters etc. in I movie then send to IDVD using the share function.
In IDVD I go thru each section and make sure it's right adding images to titles etc.
When all is OK, I hit the burn button.
On a few occasions it's givven me an error message but the movie has played OK
However, on most occasions I get no error message just 'Your disc has been created' and the disc will not play in any DVD unit or even in my Mac.
Thanx for the welcome and any advice you can offer.

Thanx, I guess that answers that question, although I agree withh some of the comments about the speed of changeand support for older products.
I guess that's coz I work in the car industry and if we told our owners that there's no support for the old model each time we did a new one we'd be crucified.

That's good news then
Sorry I don't use any Adobe products on the Mac so I don't know... I am only saying what the PDF says, which is not designed for Leopard, and has compatibility issues for which there is no solution (something along those lines, in the table of the PDF).

Can you try to make a new user and test it out in that new user account?
Also maybe try to kill the plist for iDVD and try to burn it in your usual account.
Close iDVD and then Trash this file.
User>Library>Preferences>com.apple.iDVD.plist
Delete that and reopen iDVD and try again.

Well, I got it to create one new DVD. Then I added another scene to the original movie and have been trying in vain to burn the updated version.
At least I got a new error message. Telling me there's a disc formatting problem.
So now I've tried it with 3 different brands of disc with the same non result each time.
I'm about ready to throw my Mac out the window and go buy an IBM.

Searching the machine I found this.....
Dec 31 09:24:55 203-214-28-206 mdworker[386]: CFPropertyListCreateFromXMLData(): Old-style plist parser: missing semicolon in dictionary.
I have no idea if it's the cause but it appears the right number of times and at the right times. Why would this semi colon be missing some time but not all the time? Any ideas how I can fix it?

Reinstalling software would be much easier than that :P

You're probably right, but surely we should be able to expect that new software is thoroughly tested and well sorted before relaese so it will work with existing equipment.? It's not as if my 'box' is an antique, it's barely 2 years old.

Your iDVD problem, have you done all the most recent updates?
I ALWAYS choose to create a disk image so i have a backup of the disk AND I know Toast will burn it fine.
Oh out of curiosity, what version of iLife are you using?
