How to copy Boot Camp part of Leopard Disc

On the one hand I don't want to pirate a copy of the Leopard Installation disc off the original 5-person disc my family bought, but on the other hand, I don't want to damage a ~$250 plastic disc just because Windows has driver problems. And Windows has a lot of Driver problems.

Is it possible for me to copy the Leopard Boot Camp Drivers part of the disc (and not the entire installation disc) and burn it (hopefully) onto a CD-R?

Many Thanks in advance.

Using Disk Utility you should be able to select just the partition on the DVD disk that contains the BootCamp drivers and save the image and re-burn to a CDR.

Or

You can mount the DVD in a Windows system, copy the contents of the DVD presented (and keep the directory structure/layout) and then reburn those files/directories onto another CDR).

I know option 2 works, as I did it previously.

Option one definitely didn't work... there was only one thing to select and I now have a 7GB disc image in my trash. I shall try option two. Thanks a bunch.

Use Toast 8's Disc to Disc copy scheme to make a carbon copy of the disk. It's the only way that works. The Bootcamp drivers partition is hidden to OS X but not to Toast.

And you are allowed to make 1 backup copy of any disc of software you own, it's part of the Fair Usage copyright laws. But if you sell the original disc then it becomes a stolen copy.

I think I'll just follow Purana's suggestion with the simple data copying. Windows isn't worth the price of a DVD-DL.

Hi iPirate,

Pardon any misinterpretation of mine.... but....

CD or DVD's are not damaged by any drive regardless of operating system. You need software to write to any CD or DVD, and even then if there is no space or session free they will not write anyway.

Maybe your question is related to the copy matter. In this case just use a DVD copy software on either Windows or Mac; I use Nero or Toast respectively to take an image.

Sorry if I've interpreted your question wrong, but can't you save the windows driver onto a USB drive through the bootcamp assistant? Don't have my mac next to me so I can't confirm, but at least prior to Leopard you were able to do that.

I don't believe Fair Usage exists in Australia.

If somebody manages to get the Bootcamp drivers let us know how big they are...

No, they are damaged by wear and tear. And the amount of times I've had to reinstall XP on my MBP would cause a fair amount of wear and tear, and it's not fair on the other 3 people using this disc as their only OS Install/Restore/Repair disc.

The question is definitely related to the copy matter. I want to copy the Boot Camp disc, and leave all the Leopard stuff alone. I want a second disc to wear out.

And for those who want to know, size is ~400mb. It would fit on a CD-R. Not requiring a DVD-DL which is significantly more expensive, which an entire ripped Leopard DVD would take up.
