Having read that Clean Install is the best option for installing Leopard, can I do the following ?

- Choose Archive & Install when installing Leopard so that all my files and settings are backed up.

- Restart the installation process and do a Clean Install.

- After installation, retrieve the files and settings from Archive ?

Normally, when I have to reinstall Tiger, I copy my /~user/ folder to my back up drive and after clean installation of Tiger, I have to go through the painful process of setting up everything again like importing mail, address book, ical etc. Can Archive & Install on Leopard ease this ?

Thanks in advance.

Excellent. There should be now only two possibilities.

1. The new disc will work, which means the old one was stuffed, and you will be able to get into the Leopard experience at last.

or

2. The new disc will provide the same result, meaning the hardware is at fault.

I think I can safely say that all here have our fingers crossed for the disc being the issue.

Good luck!
