Urgent Help re Upgrade or Erase and Install

Friends,

I have just bought a MacBook Pro and it has come with Tiger pre-installed and Leopard drop-in DVD to upgrade it.

Should I simply just perform the 'upgrade', or should I select 'Erase and Install'.

I understand if I choose erase and install, I will need to then install the programs from the original Tiger discs as they contain all the bundled software.

Is there and advantage or disadvantage of performing either process?

Some people tell me I just erase and install to remove any reminants of Tiger to prevent any system issues.

Other say it does not matter.

Is there any real 'best method' to perform based on experience and/or knowledge.

Appreciate your feedback.

You should be safe to do an upgrade, but if you want to be certain do an erase and install, you will have to reinstall ilife from your tiger disc afterward though.

On most systems an erase and install is preferable, itll make sure that the os is freash and 100% itself, not just updated bits from the previous version

personally i always prefer the upgrade path, it seems to result in less complications (or maybe i am just lucky!)

i always do a good clean up first though, get rid of all the rubbish, backup system with superduper or similar, repair permissions, and boot off the previous OS disk and run disk repair. then do the upgrade.

Also, because it comes the the drop-in DVD, how do I know my machine is the latest version?

By the processor/memory config?

I just to make sure it has the L.E.D backlighting etc as I assumed this new machine would have had Leopard already installed.

You should be fine chrisflyer it just means that the machine has been sitting in the shop for a while. The led backlit screen has been around for a while, I wouldnt worry about that.

An upgrade will be fine. Apple's upgrade option is very reliable when it comes to Apple's own software.
