Safari okay

G'day,

I was always a Netscape boy, pretty much up until I got my eMac in 04 (and with it, moved into OS X), at which point I tried Safari for a bit, but then moved over to Firefox.

I've stayed "back" at Firefox version 1.07 (cos I didn't like the version that came out after that very much)... and have never really considered other browsers other than on an as needs basis. Well, this weekend I had such a basis, and have spent the past 2 days using Safari 3.03... and have to admit - it's FAST!!!

When I downloaded it from Apple's site I remember seeing the ad claiming it was faster than any other browser... but just thought - yeah, whatever. But now that I've really given it a bit of a go - compared to Firefox 1.07... WOW!

As one example - I did a speed comparison of just scrolling down a page of (very mostly) text. Safari was 100% faster (or more).

So... I think I'll give it a bit more testing now...

cheers

Safari 3 is great. I really noticed the difference from V.2 with my crappy 512 Unwired connection. I found i could watch Youtube for the first time without it constantly stopping.

Another fan of Safari 3.03 here too - it's nice to use a web browser that is comparably fast as those used on equivalent-specced PCs running Windows (and it's also on Windows too now!).

Must have upgrade, and 10.4.11 installs this too.

cosmichobo, have you tried using Firefox 2.0.0.11 too? Or Camino 1.5.4?

Just broadening your options.

I am a Safari 3.0.4 user here on Leopard

I currently use Camino but I really want to use Safari for things like the speed and improved search (which sucks serious nuts in Camino).

The only thing that's keeping me back is the banner/ad blocking in Camino. It's so good and blocks most pop-ups too.

Any good/free way to block ads/banners in Safari?

theres some user.css file or something similar that can block ads but i havent managed to get it to work.

i'd go back to safari in a heart beat if i could sync my bookmarks between safari on my home mac and safari on my work pc. foxmarks does it for firefox and its perfect. i add in a new bookmark at work, when i get home its already in there. just perfect.

Mmmm, odd!

I just recently started selling stuff on ebay...

Shameless plug for my stuff

For some reason, Safari didn't give me any of the text editing functions in eBay's listing pages... ie text size, colour, alignment etc.

So I had to go back to Firefox...
