Converting *.wma to *.mp3

I've got a bunch of *.wma files which are excerpts from radio programs, which I'd like to convert to a format my iPod touch will read - preferably also 'join them up' into longer files. What shareware program will enable me to do this? Failing that, what relatively inexpensive software exists for this purpose?

Andrew

Max can convert *.wma to *.mp3. Not sure about actually joining them though. It's free.

Don't know about conversion of wma files, but ffmpegx will join files together.

I can't seem to get this app to recognise *.wma at all.

There are a few ways you can do it:

- Using the Flip4Mac codecs installed, you can export to MP3/AAC with the Export feature in QuickTime. Then join the MP3's/AAC files together with FFMpegX

- VisualHub may also convert and join it (it doesn't have an audio option in there, but try the demo out and see if it can do it)

- You can use ffmpeg from the command line if you're comfortable with that - should be able to decode and join it from the one command

I didn't think Max could do that conversion. The only WMA converters I've found on the Mac are not free, I read this was because Microsoft charge a license fee for WMA conversion. You could try EasyWMA $10 US.

If you have access to Windows you could always convert them in iTunes, that's what I normally do.

I think you need Quicktime Pro to export them, You could use Garageband to join them and export it to iTunes for your iPod Touch.

Also, iTunes on Windows is able to convert/import .wma files into iTunes .

Good luck!

(Kind of beaten by above post)

Doug's AppleScripts For iTunes has Join Together which allows you to create a single chapterized file out of multiple files.

Edit: Also Audiobook Maker, which is very easy to use.
