Parallels won't boot and can't control fans in Boot Camp

Former title: "Help - Windows won't boot!"

So it all started with trying to play a game in Windows using an iso instead of a real disc in the Optical Drive. Parallels began to have problems booting up. One of the two errors was as follows:

Click the image to open in full size.

The other booting error was like the VMWare one below. Anyway, for a time I could only boot Windows in VMWare and in full Boot Camp. VMWare turned out to be able to play the game, just with considerable lag (Age of Empires) and when playing in Boot Camp, aside from the stretched screen, the fans weren't running as fast as they could (and my MBP was getting way too hot to touch at the back) so I copied a fan controlling application to my login's desktop in Windows (by dragging and dropping it into my Windows partition, not via VMWare.

Now I get this message when trying to boot, both natively and via VMWare...

Any ideas how I can fix this? I really would like Windows back... mainly cos I have Sid Meier's Pirates on there and I don't want to keep reinstalling Windows every time something goes wrong.

Edit: Oh yeah, and on a related note, I used Boot Camp assistant to make the Boot Camp partition *after* Leopard came out... I don't know if it was supposed to stop me or something but it didn't.

Edit 2: And why does Parallels have to initialise its tools *every* time I open my Boot Camp partition in it? It's very annoying.

Feck. That sucks. I thought there was hope as I got that problem in Parallels but was still able to boot into Windows Natively and in VMWare... oh well. I'll just have to reinstall *everything* again.

Bloody Windows no use for anything can't even last a full 7 days!?!

Have you still got the iso mounted?

It could be trying to boot from the 'CD Drive'.

You should make a copy/backup of your Parallels/VMware image/folder after it has been reinstalled.

you're not screwed, ive repaired had the exact same error of hal.dll missing. just had to google around a bit.
as it turns out, hal.dll errors can cometimes be linked to the boot.ini file and have nothin to do with hal.dll at all. Thats what my problem was and i just followed these steps to fix it

Ok, thanks to you all I can now boot Windows in Boot Camp and VMWare... But not in Parallels (it still complains about the ntoskrnl.exe being buggered).

If it isn't too much trouble, does anyone have any ideas to fix this, and also does anyone have any ideas how I can control the Fans whilst in Boot Camp? I'm sick of rebooting into OS X and finding my computer is still on 80 degrees from playing around in Windows.

Btw: Something other than InputRemapper please, as that controls the fans at the expense of all the Boot Camp keyboard things.

the Hal is related to the boot methods used to support parallels etc, but can you clarify that you are using both parallels and vmware with the same install?

If so i would say that is a very dangerous move, many people think its a easy switch of a button, but really it is a complex change of core windows components to make it compatible with different hardware etc

Yes it is the same install... can't have three configs? Bugger.

I hate to say this but that system did appear to work with Vista for maybe two weeks... but then it asked for multiple serials to do so so I deleted it.

Oh well, looks like I'm gonna have to stick with Parallels then (once I get it working), even if its coherence mode does come across as inferior to unity, and if Fusion does sometimes feel faster than Parallels. So much for reaping the best from both worlds.

So I take it running in two VMs is a no-no. Ok, then down to the last question: What other than InputRemapper can control my fans in boot camp, and not try to fiddle with anything else?
